Newcastle Waters

Newcastle Waters is a 1,033,101ha breeding property in the west Barkly region of the Northern Territory.

Its open plains, flood country and timbered sand hills can carry 65,700 head of cattle including 20,000 commercial Brahman breeders. The property is home to Newcastle Waters Brahman stud, which comprises 4,000 stud females. Annually the stud produces 1,000 quality, acclimatised herd bulls for CPC's Northern properties.

Its annual turnoff of 25,000 - 30,000 head are finished according to market demands, with the steer portion being taken at five to seven months for fattening as Jap ox on the Queensland properties or finished on Lake Woods for export to Indonesia via Darwin port.

Greg and Allison Dakin took up the role of Managers of Newcastle Waters in July 2022 having previously managed large-scale breeding operations across Northern Australia.  Having grown up on smaller farming and stud cattle properties in south-eastern QLD, together they headed north and west and progressed their career in the Northern Beef industry over the past 24 years.  Those career moves have seen them involved in many different operations across the North including large-scale artificial breeding programs, feed-lotting, broadacre farming, large scale beef breeding and backgrounding operations and live export.

Taking a break from station operations whilst their youngest attended school “in town”, Greg has been heavily involved in the training and development of staff on corporate pastoral operations across Northern Australia whilst Allison worked as a practicing lawyer specializing in Native Title and land tenure.

Greg and Allison have five children with three of those also being employed in the Northern beef industry.
