Newcastle Waters

Newcastle Waters is a 1,033,101ha breeding property in the west Barkly region of the Northern Territory.

Its open plains, flood country and timbered sand hills can carry 65,700 head of cattle including 20,000 commercial Brahman breeders. The property is home to Newcastle Waters Brahman stud, which comprises 4,000 stud females. Annually the stud produces 1,000 quality, acclimatised herd bulls for CPC's Northern properties.

Its annual turnoff of 25,000 - 30,000 head are finished according to market demands, with the steer portion being taken at five to seven months for fattening as Jap ox on the Queensland properties or finished on Lake Woods for export to Indonesia via Darwin port.

Tim, Ruth and their three children, George, Kate & Nina, moved to Newcastle Waters in early 2022. Tim has worked in the Northern Pastoral industry since the mid 1990’s and has broad experience in the management of large scale breeder operations. Tim has a particular interest in the application of herd segregation to optimise breeder performance while sustainably utilising extensive native pastures.

Ruth holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from University of Queensland and has worked for the NT and QLD state primary industry departments in rangeland pasture research and extension roles. Ruth has more than a decade of experience in station support.

Tim and Ruth are keenly interested in developing and maintaining strong, industrious and inclusive station communities. They believe strongly in encouraging training and advancement opportunities for station staff and are dedicated to encouraging careers in the pastoral industry.
