The merger of Consolidated Meat Group Pty Lty and Teys Bros (Holdings) Pty Ltd in October 2002 has seen the Teys Group become the second largest meat processor in Australia and the largest Australian owned beef company with Teys managing the merged entity.
The Teys Group consists of six beef processing plants situated at Beenleigh, Biloela, Innisfail and Rockhampton in Queenland, Naracoorte in South Australia and Katherine in the Northern Territory, and one feedlot, with the Group currently having 30,000 cattle in feed.
The Teys Group is the largest employer in the rural areas where each operating plant is situated and employs 1,650 people throughout its operations. This is set to increase to 2,000 with the initial opening of the Rockhampton plant and upon reaching the full capacity at this plant, the Group will employ 2,850 people.
Teys is committed to full compliance with Australia’s food safety and quality assurance status through adherence to on-farm and feedlot quality assurance systems including CATTLECARE, National Feedlot Accreditation Scheme (NAFS), Australian Standard for hygenic production and transportation of meat (including daily hygiene inspections, and post mortem health inspections), and the Export Control Act 1982 which includes compliance with the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) and microbiological assessment of beef for export; and Australia’s livestock traceability system.
Each Teys plant operates under a strict environmental license issued by the EPA. Key factors in Teys’ environmental performance include protection of our waterways, waste management and energy efficiency. The company is committed to ensuring that activities are conducted in an ecological manner with a high standard of environmental performance that complies with all relevant environmental legislation.
