Kirkimbie
Kirkimbie came into existence in the 1970's when the Vesty company subdivided and sold their Mistake Creek lease on the edge of the Northern Territory/Western Australia border. It became part of Consolidated Pastoral Company in 1986.
Located in the southern Victoria River region, 2,300 sq km Kirkimbie is an equal mix of Flinders and Mitchell grass covered black soil plains and red spinifex country.
The property is run in conjunction with the neighbouring 1,700 sq km Bunda Station, owned and managed by Reg Underwood, the aggregation carrying 22,000 CPC cattle.
Better genetics and supplementation with mineral licks to overcome dietary phosphorus deficiencies has seen Kirkimbie revert from a steer depot to a breeding block carrying 11,000 cows. Steers leave the property at 200 kg to 220 kg liveweight for growing out at Carlton Hill and Argyle prior to export or are sent east for finishing on Queensland properties.
The 6,500 head annual turnoff includes spayed heifers which are fattened over the border at Carlton Hill or Argyle Stations.
