Humbert River was crown land until conversion to Pastoral Permit around 1903, the Permit was taken up by Newton and Kearney in the same year. The Permit was resumed in 1908 with the South Australian Government intending to use it as an Aboriginal reserve, this did not eventuate. A Grazing Licence was Issued to B Butler in 1914, which was sold to C Schultz in 1919.

The Schultz brothers walked their bullocks from Humbert River to Wyndham meatworks, the trip taking a month to complete. In later years they "overlanded" their cattle into Queensland, returning with unbroken horses to be educated and sold to Victoria River Downs.

The 1,090 sq km property located on the Humbert River has a 900 mm annual rainfall and consists of open bloodwood forest and coolabah country.

A breeding block stocked at 9,000 head, it turns off 3,000 a year with steers trucked to Carlton Hill for backgrounding or sent to Nockatunga for finishing on the channel country.

Humbert River was purchased with Newcastle Waters Station in 1983.
