Brantwood
On the edge of the Pilliga scrub 56 km east of Walgett is CPC's 5,112 hectare fattening block, Brantwood. Managed by Des Allerton who operates the neighbouring 9,720 hectare Notrella, Brantwood is used to finish three-year-old Jap ox bullocks from the company's Queensland properties.
Consisting of chocolate and red soils supporting Mitchell grass and native medic plains, Brantwood can carry one beast per two hectares, turning off 3,500 bullocks a year.
To boost production 1,215 hectares of Pilliga scrub has been cleared to crop summer and winter forage and cereals.
Brantwood was purchased in 1994 from the Evans family and the Gordon family who were early settlers in the district.
